Fifty days to Christmas and a week over to the new year, this is my favourite time of the year. The days are getting long and the breeze is getting warm. As I walk down pathways covered in petals, the horizons are a blur. In the distance, I see a Christmas tree, golden and green. It is covered in lights, and wishes and dreams.
It is that time of the year when you soak in the excitement that comes with Christmas and the festivities. November is the month of giving, marked with candies and turkey, from Halloween to Thanksgiving. Stop and smell the flowers, stare at the moon against daylight, enjoy the breeze between your fingers from dusk to dark, and embrace the morning skies.
We are just a month away from changing the calendars on our kitchen doors, and fixing dates on the corners of our diaries. I am grateful that through this rollercoaster of a year, I lived. Even when you feel like you haven’t achieved much, these weeks are a reminder that you will always find peace and joy, with or without material goals. This is the season of penance and prayer, and anticipation. This is the season of faith, dressed up in bokeh lights and holiday playlists.
All this time, I thought I knew what I was looking for until it found me. I am one step closer to my dream – a dream of hope. Beneath every goal and ambition, that’s all it truly has been for me, hope – for a better me and a better tomorrow. What do you live for?
