Note to self: Greet your stranger

Greetings, greetings, greetings.

Do you ever walk past strangers and imagine what it would be like to talk to them? I find myself smiling at strangers, often mouthing a hello or thank you for their kindness when they stop at signals or make way on pavements or are simply beautiful with each other on trains and trams.

It is so easy to get lost in the daily chaos and commutes and to use our smartphones as shields from making eye contact that we often ignore the bliss that stands right before us. What if we’re only a how are you away from making someone’s day or from not feeling so alone ourselves? Does being mindful always need to be an internal course of action or could we be mindful for someone else and reach out and ask that question?

Three simple words: how are you?

How are you, human? How are your heart and mind doing? Are we feeling okay? Was it easy to get out of bed this morning? What are your dreams made of? Bare your soul to me. Tell me beautiful, tell me.

I would love to know about the father and daughter negotiating buying an iPad in the mall or about the kind PTV officer making announcements every morning at the station or about the hot dude reading on the train. I want to know about you and you and you. I want to know all your stories and share mine with you.

I want to find myself as I find you.

C x
